Welcome to QueerBox ("we," "our," or "us"). QueerBox is a platform for discovering, tracking, and discussing LGBTQ+ film and television. We are committed to protecting your personal information and your right to privacy.

2. Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information:

  • Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your email address, username, and password (stored securely via Supabase).
  • Google Sign-In: If you choose to sign in with Google, we receive your email address, name, and profile picture from Google. We do not receive your Google password.
  • Profile Information: Any optional information you add to your profile, such as a display name, bio, or avatar.
  • Activity Data: Films you add to your watchlist, films you mark as watched, reviews and ratings you submit, and lists you create.
  • Usage Data: Basic analytics about how you interact with the app, collected via PostHog, to help us improve the product.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and manage your account
  • Provide personalized film recommendations
  • Save your watchlist, ratings, and reviews
  • Enable community features such as shared lists and reviews
  • Improve and develop the QueerBox platform
  • Send important account-related notifications (not marketing emails without your consent)

4. How We Store Your Data

Your data is stored securely using Supabase, a trusted backend platform with industry-standard encryption. All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text.

5. Data Sharing

  • Supabase: For database and authentication services.
  • Google: If you use Google Sign-In, subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
  • PostHog: For anonymized usage analytics.
  • Law enforcement: If required by law. We will notify affected users where legally permitted to do so.

Public profile information (username, reviews, public lists) is visible to other users of QueerBox by design.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your account and associated data
  • Export your data

7. Cookies & Analytics

QueerBox uses PostHog for product analytics. This helps us understand how users interact with the app so we can improve it. Analytics data is anonymized where possible.

8. Children's Privacy

QueerBox is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page. Continued use of QueerBox after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
